The Method of Automated Tool and Cutting Parameters Selection for Capp Utilisation

The paper deals with the problem of proper selection of tools and cutting parameters for a given task in external turning on the basis of catalogue recommendation. The described method takes into account, in its algorithms, various factors influencing machining operation like an actual machine tool and properties of workpiece material. The architecture of the CAPP system including a module for cutting tool and parameters selection has been presented. Databases use SANDVIKCoromant cutting data and recommendations. Moreover the method utilises common production engineering knowledge. Equations and rules, which represent particular constraints to the solution set, are based on common technological knowledge. Since the authors noticed that there is no connection between catalogues cutting data and actual machining environment. A solution based on tool life identification in real machining operation and Taylor equation has been presented in details. All procedures are illustrated with actual data and research results conveyed by the authors.
